Astro van console installed in 1999 Corolla
Installed by John Feinberg, September 2000
A year ago I purchased an Astro ceiling console from Dave Langness, and installed it in my 1994 Impala SS. I really love it, and when I bought a 1999 Corolla as a beater car to keep the miles off of my SS I wanted another console. So I thought what the hey, I'll give it a try!
Well it was actually quite easy to install. Once you install a ceiling console once, the second one is easy. The Corolla already has bolt holes in the front ceiling for the rear view mirror, so I used the factory hole and even the factory screw from the mirror! I replaced the ceiling hung mirror with a windshield mount mirror. And not just any mirror, as you'll see below. I also used the stock screw holes from the original ceiling light. They lined up with some solid plastic under the CD holder, so I just drilled some holes in that plastic and screwed it in. Really easy! No sheet metal drilling or fabrication. In fact the only cutting I had to do was the headliner (naturally) and also I had to cut off the tabs from the visors. You can even see my hack job in one of the pictures.
